YMMV / Doctor Who S39 E1: "Flux Chapter One: The Halloween Apocalypse"

• Les Yay:
  • The opening scene has Yaz and the Doctor falling through the doors of the sideways TARDIS, bouncing off a trampoline, and landing on their backs on a bed together.
  • Throughout the episode, Yaz complaining about the Doctor shutting her out and not communicating about certain things is very reminiscent of someone wanting their significant other to open up more.
• Shocking Moments: The climactic scene is one of the most intense cliff-hangers of the New Who era; everything from the Cloister Bell chiming to the final scene in which the protagonists and the entire Earth are left to an uncertain fate is a roller-coaster of intensity. However, special mention has to go to the moment when the Doctor opens the hatch to the Eye of Harmony, exposing the Flux to the pure energy of the time vortex... and it appears to do absolutely nothing to it. For context, this is the same energy that turned Rose Tyler into a literal God at the end of Series 1 and also killed the Ninth Doctor.
• Woolseyism: Instead of the Doctor saying she had a Scottish accent when she programmed the voice-activated manacles, in the French version she rather mentions that she was a man at the time, and tries speaking in a gravely voice (because the French voice actor for Peter Capaldi as the twelfth Doctor had no specific accent).
