YMMV / Doctor Who S37 E5 "The Tsuranga Conundrum"

Go To

  • Hilarious in Hindsight: Chris Chibnall infamously blasted "The Trial of a Time Lord" on Talk Back for featuring monsters and running down corridors. Over thirty years later, he writes a script that features... a monster and running down corridors.
  • Narm:
    • The Pting is constantly spoken about as an incredibly dangerous creature, one was once responsible for the destruction of an entire fleet of warships. It's also the size of a human baby, has big, cute eyes and has a funny sounding name.
    • When Astos tells the Doctor to take a comm-dot, it is very easy to mishear as "take a condom".
  • Narm Charm: The subplot about Yoss could easily have been goofy enough to completely derail the plot, but it manages to not overstay its welcome and deliver some good, but not misplaced, chuckles while also being surprisingly sweet at times.
  • Retroactive Recognition: Astos is Roy Kent.
  • They Wasted a Perfectly Good Plot:
    • After a quite engaging opening where the Doctor is forced to acknowledge and apologize for her Protagonist-Centered Morality, we have an intriguing setup for her learning to step back where need be and let an actual doctor take charge. But then he's killed, and we're left with business as usual when his replacement has to focus on Yoss' pregnancy.
    • Uncharacteristically for the Doctor, she simply accepts that Ronan will not live beyond the purpose he was made for, rather than trying to convince him to live on his own terms.
  • Ugly Cute: The Pting. Relentless, bad-tempered, highly dangerous, and something to be desperately avoided, it still manages to be adorable especially when it has a full belly.
