YMMV / Doctor Who S34 E6 "The Caretaker"

  • Narm: Danny saving the day by front-flipping over the Skovox in a move that obviously uses a hidden springboard would be silly enough, but the decision to switch to slow motion gives the audience plenty of time to really appreciate how goofy it looks.
  • Unintentionally Unsympathetic:
    • When inside the TARDIS, Danny starts picking a fight with the Doctor once he hears he's a Time Lord, accusing him of being the aristocracy that starts the fires. However, if he had let Clara or the Doctor explain what a Time Lord is, or that the Doctor ran away from the aristocracy of his own people, he would probably not have been chucked out after addressing the Doctor as "sir", even after the Doctor asked him not to. To be fair, he had already been very well provoked by...
    • The Doctor refusing to call Danny by his name, and only appearing to be happy to see Clara date another teacher as long as said teacher looked like his former incarnation didn't make him look good. While the Doctor was distracted by the crisis at hand, his causal dismissal of Danny, as well as sneering at him calling him just as "soldier" against his wishes, seemed overly hostile for no reason and out-of-character.
    • Not to mention that whatever his real reasons, the Doctor taking exception to Clara dating a man of color and preferring that she date a white man just doesn't look good. This is also on top of him constantly assuming Danny to be a P.E. teacher rather than maths, which is implied to be because of the Doctor recognizing the soldier mentality within him, but can also be taken as a comment on Danny's appearance.
    • Clara's attempts to keep her normal life separate from her TARDIS travels is Played for Laughs, but leads her to acting in a rather callous way, such as straight up lying to Danny, and calling a student an amateur for asking about homework when she rushes off to intercede the Doctor meeting Danny, even dismissing staff and students on the way.
    • Danny calling out Clara on her relationship with the Doctor, telling her to let him know as soon as he pushes her too far, and then ordering her to promise him that to maintain their relationship is supposed to show how much he's grown to care about Clara. But given that they've still only recently gotten to know each other and he's saying this about a man Clara has known for far longer, it comes off as rather possessive and condescending.
