YMMV / Doctor Who S34 E2 "Into the Dalek"

• Common Knowledge: The idea that "Rusty" is meant to be a stand-in for previous showrunner Russell T Davies has no official basis from then-showrunner Steven Moffat or episode writer Phil Ford. The idea was most likely popularized by H.Bomberguy's video 2017 Doctor Who Special Analysis.
• Narm:
  • Fleming, for no apparent reason other than childish quizzing, asks if Danny killed someone who wasn't a soldier during his service. A tear then dramatically runs down Danny's cheek.
• They Wasted a Perfectly Good Character: Some fans thought Journey would have made a good companion and it was odd that the Doctor would give a Dalek a chance to be good, but not a soldier.
• Unintentionally Sympathetic:
  • In what is meant to be a Meet Cute, Clara snips back at Danny's comment about there being "more to soldiering" than shooting people with "so you shoot people and cry about it later". To make it worse, she didn't know about him actually crying in the classroom, so her comment comes across as insensitive rather than witty.
  • Rusty regaining his hatred for the Daleks and killing them all is treated as a tragic failure, which falls flat considering the Daleks would have killed everyone else on the station.
