• Never Live It Down: Adric's particularly unsympathetic characterisation in this story (both his arrogance and misogyny early on, and the ease with which Monarch persuades him to support him with just a brief conversation) is never forgotten by his many fandom detractors.
• Take That, Scrappy!:
  • The Doctor holds nothing back when calling Adric out on his Jerkassery.
    Now listen to me, you young idiot, you're not so much gullible as idealistic. I suppose it comes from your deprived delinquent background.
  • And earlier, Nyssa tells him to shut up.
• They Wasted a Perfectly Good Plot: Adric is suddenly a misogynist and a dupe for Monarch. Yet somehow they completely missed a perfectly logical reason why Adric might think Monarch was right - Adric also grew up as an Elite, in a society ruled by a triumvirate of (benevolent) dictators. Monarch's society is the closest to his "normal" he's seen since he started travelling with the Doctor. But this is never brought up, and instead his actions are pure writer's fiat.
