  • Awesome Moments: Tippy, the new Safety Captain, saving the day by bursting into a burning room with a fire extinguisher. None of the others knew where to find the extinguisher and Tippy had just undergone a Heroic BSoD after Dr. Crane chewed out her more effective (and less friendly) efforts.
  • Retroactive Recognition: In addition to both of Billy Ray's daughters making their acting debuts on the series, Michael Cera made one of his first appearances in a pair of Season 2 episodes.
  • Tear Jerker:
    • In "Busy Man", the patient of the week is a businessman who is trying desperately to close an important deal, ignoring his serious pneumonia in the process. Unlike some similar characters, he does get some sweet moments with his wife and children, and he tells Doc that he's working so hard on this because it'll set them up for life if he does. He ends up realizing his mistake when it's too late. He passes away with his wife and young kids by his bedside as the mysterious singer he heard (an electrical worker) sings one more rendition of "Amazing Grace" to ease his death. Doc's end-of-episode wrap-up ends on him attending the funeral.
    • "Fearless" focuses on a new music teacher named Daniel Parson (guest star Steven Curtis Chapman) who, after repeated and unexplained falls (including at least once off a stage), is diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. Making matters worse is that at least two of the falls (on the stage and in the classroom) took place in front of his daughter, while Parson - when asked - adds that he had another stumble walking his daughter to school (though he tried to play it off as having gotten distracted).
    • "Time Flies" consists of Nancy having trouble coming to terms with her mother's cancer progressing. She spends most of the episode trying to get her into an experimental treatment program that might lengthen her life and snapping at anyone who questions her behavior. She eventually reaches a sort of acceptance and when her mother expresses a craving for Twinkle Puffs, a certain snack from Nancy's childhood, she ends up needing to go to the store to get a box...only to discover that her mother passed away while she was out.
