• Complete Monster: Black Shuck is the leader of the Rayonne forces throughout America. After having a falling out with the Rayonne commanders, Black Shuck attempted to win back their good graces by attacking all of the resistance forces in America, where he killed, imprisoned, or enslaved any humans or integrated robots who stood in his way. When Romer Shoal escapes from his Iron Cloud alongside several other prisoners, Black Shuck uses his resources to repeatedly attack them and any of their allies, where he successfully kills Coqui and seriously damages the resistance. Shortly after getting captured, Black Shuck repeatedly tries to convince Romer and his crew to join the Rayonne, and inevitably has Rezek free him under false pretense that he'll help him find his daughters; Black Shuck murders Rezek the second he's freed. Once freed, Black Shuck returns to the Iron Cloud and launches an attack on the Human Liberty Coalition's base to stop the resistance once and for all.
• Memetic Mutation: Reload Simulator 2020 ^Explanation In previews for the game, many players took note of how often the player had to reload their guns. This meme carried over to the actual game where one of the criticisms leveled was that, between bullet-sponge enemies and low magazine capacities, players had to spend a lot of time reloading their guns.
• Scrappy Mechanic: An unfortunate example where the Scrappy Mechanic is also the central mechanic of the game, the gravcycle. It was roundly criticized for being slow, clunky, fragile, and an awful idea all around.
• Strangled by the Red String: Around the mid-point of the game, the story suddenly decides that Romer has a thing for Tala. None of the scenes the two of them had together before that point even hint at this and Romer's bizarre 180° from barely tolerating her presence to low-key flirting with her and giving her a gravcycle does nothing to help.
• Unintentionally Unsympathetic: Waggoner in his first appearance. He denies Agnes, Coqui, Doyle, Rezek and Romer entrance to his base, simply because they didn't ask nicely enough, despite knowing his refusal could get them all killed. Then he proceeds to patronize and talk down to them and only considers letting them in when Romer offers to work for him.
