  • Designated Hero: The NSA. They have access to almost all the world’s online encrypted information within a few minutes thanks to TRANSLTR who’s only safeguard, judicial process, was scrapped right after it was made. The only people who have a problem with any of this are Greg Hale, who’s treated as a fallacious idiot, and Ensei Tankado, who in his attempts to save people from TRANSLTR, had his whole reputation ruined by the NSA.
  • Designated Villain: Ensei Tankado. His only crimes are attempting to stop the NSA from getting away with unrestricted access to information thanks to TRANSLTR’s only limit being processing time by notifying the world and giving the NSA the ultimatum of either announcing TRANSLTR’s existence to the world or having all their files go public in an ironic twist.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight: Clouchard goes against the Courteous Canadian stereotype in a particularly Jerkass manner. Fast-forward several years to a certain caustic canadian web comedian...
  • Strawman Has a Point: Greg Hale comments on how TRANSLTR would make all government resistance futile by allowing a tyrannical government to snoop on any of their communications unimpeded, which Susan brushes off as a Logical Fallacy. Except the only thing stopping the government from doing so, needing to get a court order to use TRANSLTR on any given email address, was scrapped right after it was made. There is no safeguard that would stop a future government from abusing the power TRANSLTR grants them.
