  • Anvilicious: "Evil Boy" has a strong anti-circumcision message.
  • Broken Base: Their roles in Chappie. People who are their fans or otherwise familiar with the characterization of Ninja and Yolandi reacted favourably whereas those already disliking them or unfamiliar to their characters did not. As seen in this wiki, there seems to be no middle ground.
  • Critical Dissonance: With the main exception of their debut album, their material have divided critics, but nonetheless have a loyal cult fanbase.
  • Fandom Rivalry: Their fans do NOT get along with the Little Monsters, especially with the "Fatty Boom Boom" video and Gaga's displeasure at said video's depiction of her.
  • Heartwarming Moments: "Moon Love" is a Surprisingly Gentle Song about Yolandi and Ninja's daughter, Sixteen, asking her daddy to "fix her heart."
  • Nightmare Fuel: The music videos for "Fatty Boom Boom", "Pitbull Terrier", "I Fink U Freeky", "Evil Boy" etc, most notably when Yolandi dons white or black contacts in said videos.
  • No Such Thing as Bad Publicity: And how. The "Fatty Boom Boom" video caused controversy for its unflattering depiction of Lady Gaga along with Yolandi donning blackface but it didn't stop them gaining a lot of publicity as a result of this.
  • Questionable Casting: Their roles in Chappie got a confused reaction from viewers.
  • Signature Song: "Enter the Ninja", "I Fink U Freeky", "Fatty Boom Boom" etc.
  • Squick:
    • The gynecologist removing a parktown prawn from Lady Gaga's vagina in the music video for "Fatty Boom Boom".
    • Yolandi spitting a bubblegum into Ninja's month in order to revive him in the music video for "Pitbull Terrier".
  • Values Dissonance: Yolandi sporting blackface makeup in "Fatty Boom Boom".
