YMMV / Dial Code Santa Claus

Go To

  • Alternate Character Interpretation: The villain is ripe for this due to bordering on The Spook. Is he a pervert? Does he want revenge on Julie? Does he genuinely believe that he is Santa Claus? Is he really so insane that he has no idea that what he is doing is wrong because he sees it as nothing but a game? Is he briefly overcome with remorse in the scene where Thomas subjects him to a Big "WHY?!"?
  • Germans Love David Hasselhoff: The film did not do great in theatres or with critics in its native France, but was a hit on home video and in other territories, winning RenĂ© Manzor the Best Director and Best Film Awards at the 1990 Fantafestival in Italy, and bringing him to the attention of George Lucas and Steven Spielberg, who hired him to direct a few episodes of The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles, and he went on to direct episodes of Highlander as well.
  • Moral Event Horizon: If the Santa didn't cross it early on when he kills Thomas's dog he definitely does after stabbing him in the leg. All bets are off after that.
  • Special Effects Failure: In the distant shot of Thomas dangling from the rooftop, he is replaced by a shadowy animated figure, something that is more noticeable on the Blu-ray.
  • Tear Jerker: Thomas ends the film absolutely convinced that he has just killed Santa Claus, leaving him utterly broken.
