• Continuity Lockout: The author has written the books to be accessible for the first-time reader, but you need to read them a couple more times to understand how extensively each book is linked to the others. Sometimes many books in advance.
• Fashion-Victim Villain: Evil Dweomermasters often use incredibly elaborate, to the point of ridiculousness, bodies of light (soul-shielding body constructs) on the astral plane. Since it is specifically stated multiple times in the series that such constructs take both physical and magical energy make, this is foolish as well as ostentations. Black billowing robes and Skeletons in the Coat Closet are common.
• Genius Bonus: The name of the world the Deverry tales take place in is Annwn. In Welsh, Irish, and Celtic mythologies, Anwnn (or Annwfn, or Annwfyn) was the name of the most pleasurable part of the afterworld or underworld, a place of comfort and ease. Evander brought the ancestors of the people of Elddid and Deverry from Earth to Anwnn, and probably found the joke hilarious.
• Trapped by Mountain Lions: Near the end of The Shadow Isle, Kov is abducted and imprisoned by a never-before mentioned race called the Dwrgi. He manages to escape halfway through The Silver Mage, after which none of it is ever mentioned again.
