- Abandon Ship: When Veronica offered up Frank and Kara's baby to Trinity, everyone more or less agreed Frank/Veronica was dead. The issue became a moot point because Frank killed her soon after.
- Angel/Devil Shipping: Scarlet and Frank, at least on Frank's part.
- Ensemble Dark Horse: Chatterbox the zombie is beloved by just about everyone.
- Epileptic Trees: Azrael as Frank's father.
- Fan-Preferred Couple: It's implied that fans tend to prefer Veronica/Frank and Scarlett/Frank to Frank/Karra. This sometimes leads to Ship-to-Ship Combat.
- Moral Event Horizon: Veronica crosses it when she tries to sell Frank's baby daughter to the Trinity. Frank goes into a lengthy rant that he would have forgiven anything from her but that.
- The Woobie: Poor Scarlett keeps having horrible stuff happen to her despite being the most moral, kind, and decent character in the series. Becomes an Iron Woobie by the time of At the Gates.
