• Harsher in Hindsight: Wheels' drinking problem became darker for many in the context of Neil Hope's descent into alcoholism, which greatly aided his decline and death.
• Narm: As tragic as the scene of Wheels being arrested after his car crash that blinded Lucy and killed a kid is, some have commented that the almost nonchalant manner the one officer carried the boy's body away looked like she was handling a bundle of laundry.
• Rescued from the Scrappy Heap: Tessa was basically regarded as the villain by a lot of fans at the time of release, but younger viewers are much more likely to view her as the the sympathetic one who was unfairly played by Joey.
• Retroactive Recognition: Sandra Oh shows up in the background of the scene where Caitlin is working as a waitress.
• Signature Scene: "You were FUCKING Tessa Campanelli?". Although its contemporary shock value has worn off over time, it is still widely regarded as an iconic and defining moment of the entire Classic Degrassi period. It also stands out for being the only time "fuck" was ever said in the entire franchise's history.
• They Changed It, Now It Sucks!: Some people dislike the Darker and Edgier nature of School's Out, as well as what they did to several characters. Another criticism is the focus on Joey and Caitlin, while shunting other popular characters like Spike.
