Video Game:
- Awesome Music: Definitely! Most have agreed that the soundtrack made just for this game by Fumito Tamayama and Hiroto Kanno outdoes Magical Hat's music. Stage 4 has a great guitar melody to set the tone of questing through a horror-based land, while Stage 7 fits its fast and intense use for when you're getting chased by an Advancing Wall of Doom in the Shifting Sand Land.
- Germans Love David Hasselhoff: As its multiple comic strips in Sonic the Comic can attest to (the longest of any non-Sonic strips featured in the comic), the game was a great hit in the UK and is likely more well-known there than even in the US just because of said comic giving the game more attention.
- Suspiciously Similar Song: The chromatic scales on the title theme are evocative of The Phantom of the Opera.
- Most Wonderful Sound: The springy jumping sound effect can be quite memorable.
Comic Book:
- Hilarious in Hindsight: From Sonic the Comic #11: "And if the writer tries to get away with any more gags as corny as this one, he'll be back to writing My Little Pony!" Given the positive reception of My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic, that doesn't sound like much of a punishment. Even funnier is that one FiM writer, David Polsky, would find his way writing for a Sega franchise by way of Sonic Boom!
- Nightmare Fuel: DER PUMPLEKINS.
- Chuck is visited by a dentist in one issue. It was not pleasant.
- The Loan Sharks.
