YMMV / Death of Wolverine

Go To

  • Broken Base: The nature of the event alone could take up an entire page on its own. Suffice to say, some fans were glad to see him gone, others were upset, and more than a few argued it was part of the "CompleX." note  Still more joked that because of all the tie-in series, Logan was still as omnipresent as he was before he died.
    • In general, the miniseries was well-received, but the nature of his actual death has proven divisive, with some finding it a poignant and touching sendoff, while others felt it was anticlimactic.
    • While fans appreciated the focus issues exploring how different characters responded to Logan's passing, the choice of which characters received the attention led to quite a significant broken base:
      • In particular, while most fans agreed X-23, Daken, Sabretooth, Armor, Cyclops, and Colossus and Nightcrawler all deserved the attention they received, many felt that omitting the reactions of Kitty Pryde, Rogue, and Jubilee was a disservice to their relationships with Logan.
      • Some fans agreed that because Lady Deathstrike was such a long-standing adversary, seeing her reaction was up there with Sabretooth and Daken on the villainous side. However others argued that the nature of their relationship was far too one-dimensional — focusing almost entirely on Wolverine's adamantium skeleton — and irrelevant in recent stories.
      • About the one thing most readers agreed upon was objecting to Mystique being thrown into the event.
  • Squick:
    • Sabretooth making innuendo about going down on X-23, and running his fingers through her hair when he noticed she dyed her forelocks. That this is Sabretooth, and the fact that she's Logan's Opposite-Sex Clone and adopted daughter, meant both were positively loaded with subtext.
    • The reveal that Endo is a heavily scarred man who had his body changed against his will to resemble a woman. Everything about their character following this revelation makes the skin crawl.
  • Unexpected Character: The appearance of both Ogun and Cornelius in Death of Wolverine came as a surprise to a lot of readers. Especially because the latter was believed to be dead.
