YMMV / Daydreaming Derpy

Go To

  • Captain Obvious Reveal: Between the plot of the game focusing on Ponyville's citizens experiencing nightmares, and the fact the final area at the edge of the dream world is the moon, you can probably guess as to who and what the Big Bad is. The Reveal that the Tantabus causing the trouble is spawned by Celestia's mind, not Luna's, is still going to come a surprise, though.
  • Game-Breaker:
    • The Construction Worker outfit. It has very high stats, and its abilities are a two-hit attack that damages all enemies, a four-hit combo on one enemy (letting it bypass Bubble, which will only weaken the first hit), a powerful single-target attack that can stun the enemy, and a supportive skill that grants an ally Bubble, greatly weakening the next damage they take. The one drawback to the outfit is that all but the Bubble ability are Cast from Hit Points, but if you get the Cadance Stamp which grants HP regen, the healing will offset that no problem. While beating the Pie Sisters to get the uniform is a challenge, once you have it it can carry you the rest of the game, up to and including beating the final boss.
    • The Star Swirl stamp halves all MP costs and gives +20 MP, letting you spam magical abilities like there's no tomorrow.
    • The Infinity +1 Sword, the Discord outfit. Its skillset is the same as the 11th-Hour Ranger, giving Derpy a Bubble spell, a Greedy spell (lets her take two turns every round), a healing spell, a revival spell, and powerful damaging spells. Combined with the Construction Worker outfit to swap between them as needed, the Final Boss battle becomes a mere formality.
  • Goddamn Bats: Enemies with healing abilities. They're unlikely to be healing enough to outpace your damage, and at least they aren't attacking you, but they'll still serve to drag out battles.
  • Nightmare Fuel: Some of the nightmares were pretty dark already, but once the Tantabus enters the picture and Derpy enters the end game, things become downright terrifying. This being is Made of Evil Eldritch Abomination who preys on the fears of Equestria's sleeping ponies, and none of them, not even Princess Celestia, are safe from it.
  • Scrappy Mechanic: Whenever you defeat the boss of a level, Derpy is woken up by Dinky and returned to the real world, even if you wanted to keep exploring the dream world. This will also happen every time you lose a battle, but in these cases, Derpy will no longer be wearing her uniform and any allies she had in the level will not be healed (Derpy will automatically be healed by virtue of talking to Dinky when you talk to her to go to the overworld). Rushing back to your previous place can find you with two very weak allies and Derpy without a uniform on and forced to waste her first turn changing costumes.
  • That One Boss: The Pie Sisters, guardians of the Construction Worker outfit. They can use its powers against you, making for a boss that can hit very hard and stun you too.
