YMMV / Day of the Barney Trilogy

Go To

  • Crosses the Line Twice: A lot of the story would likely cross into Too Bleak, Stopped Caring were it not for who the main antagonist is.
  • Fridge Brilliance: Hitler is the only one visited by Barney who was not a child. Hmmm, what that could hint at?
  • Funny Moments: There's something awfully funny about Barney cussing in Part II.
  • Harsher in Hindsight: This story became harder to read after the release of the documentary I Love You, You Hate Me in 2022, which shows that the hatedom of Barney & Friends did, in some cases, escalate to actual violence.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight:
    • The premise of the fic is that all the world's adults have been eradicated leaving the children behind, and humanity is ruled by creatures that are Really 700 Years Old. Later, a few humans work to overthrow these creatures, with help from one of them. This sounds similar to the premise of the anime Seraph of the End.
    • The plot to eradicate everyone 13 years old and older is similar to the motive of the Kids Next Door's Splinter Cell and its true identity as the Galactic Kids Next Door, except here, the genocide is orchestrated by an adult (Barney), not the children themselves.
  • Unintentional Period Piece: Several things such as the lack of BJ and Riff (the third and fourth dinosaurs, respectively, introduced in the show following Baby Bop and Barney), mentions of the huge popularity of Barney himself, and other things such as trends mentioned in the fanfics firmly place the trilogy as a product of the 1990s.
