YMMV / Davey Boy Smith

Go To

  • Badass Decay:
    • Once he hit WCW in 1998 and no longer had Owen there with him, it became pretty clear that he really had nothing left in the tank. True, Steve "Mongo" McMichael wasn't going to bring out the best in anyone, but Davey Boy really was falling apart at that point. Not to mention the serious spinal injury he suffered by falling on the trapdoor put in the ring for the Ultimate Warrior's entrance at Fall Brawl ´98. He was partially paralyzed, hospitalized for six months, and fired during his stay. The painkillers he was on (and became addicted to) contributed to his death four years later.
    • Forward just one year and back in WWF, he had his last big matches against a long string of monster heels to have a title shot with an angle ending that made ABSOLUTE ZERO sense against Triple H. A massive CMOA... for The Rock who played as referee, commentator and crowned winner of the match. Furthermore, the massive cocktails of steroids and human growth hormone that made him big and powerful in the 80's and early 90's caused him to slow down quite a bit, let us remember once again that he was near to the end of his career... and life.
  • Germans Love David Hasselhoff: He was part of the reason why SummerSlam 92 was moved from Washington DC to London, his massive popularity in the UK contributed to the move.
  • Memetic Mutation:
    • "Where's mah title shot?" note
    • "I'm gonna win this time the Royal Rumble, TONIGHT... because I'M BIZARRE!"
    • "He fell on his arse! He fell flat on his fuckin' arse!" note
    • I wasn’t even there! It was Owen! note
  • Older than You Think:
    • The original British Bulldogs were Edward Heath & Jonathan Foley, NWA Gulf Coast Tag-Team champions back in '75.
    • When a 17-year-old Davey Boy debuted in Stampede wrestling, he was facing Dynamite Kid in a match where he was required to bleed and he had little experience with blading, so Dynamite offered to make the cut for him despite Bret Hart's objections. Dynamite lacerated Davey Boy so badly that the Hitman had to immediately call off the match and rush him to a local hospital in genuine fear that Smith would bleed to death, predating the Mass Transit Incident for 18 years. The difference here is that Davey Boy Smith was Dynamite's cousin.
  • Retroactive Recognition: He had one in the The A-Team episode "Body Slam" along with Ricky Steamboat.
