YMMV / Dark Deity

  • Base-Breaking Character: Benji. If you intentionally keep him at a high level for his "Literally the Best" skill, as well as upgrade his Blue weapon and make him a Dragoon for additional Crit-focused skills, he will become a powerhouse that can consistently deal incredible damage. However, he becomes far less viable if you try to have a balanced party that matches his level. Couple this with a Dumb Jock personality, which is either comical or annoying, and you have a clearly broken base.
  • Game-Breaker:
    • Some of the Eternal Aspects that can be equipped to playable units are incredibly easy to exploit. For example, one takes a unit's Critical rate and adds it to their Power. Combine with the high crit of a levelled-up Blue weapon and crit-improving skills such as the Dragoon's "Deft Strike" (Gain 4% Crit for each tile moved in the turn) and "Deadly Precision" (Crit is increased by 20% of Dodge), and a unit can become a one-man army.
    • Any "temporarily gain Power when killing a unit" skill, such as the Gladiator's "Thumbs Down" (increase Power by 20% for each enemy killed, for one turn). Weaken a bunch of enemies, let them charge into you during their turn, add on whatever effects your other skills and Eternal Aspects give, and you can deal over four thousand damage a hit.
  • Low-Tier Letdown:
    • Elias was considered this early on in the game's development due to awful growths. A later patch improved his stats and activation rate for his Soulfire Skill, but this has only improved his position to a "just okay" status.
    • Similarly, Aurima has been considered as a nominee for worst character in the game. His straight offensive power is good, but he lacks both the speed to really be effective as an attacker even with the Gale class and the defensive power to make him an effective tank even with the Reverie class. He technically could make a passable Surge or Blaze, but at that point some players still question why they'd field him instead of somebody from the Mage tree.
  • WTH, Costuming Department?: One nitpick by quite a few reviewers was the character design, which tends to give mostly female characters clothing choices that emphasize their figure over looking practical for combat. And this is with Sloane's outfit redesigned to be less Stripperiffic.
