• Ho Yay: While surely the furthest thing from Eliot's mind, Mordecai's obsession with Daniel easily presents itself as this to modern audiences.
• Retroactive Recognition: That's Jamie Bamber as Hans Myrick in the TV adaptation.
• Vindicated by History: Few prior British literary works had sympathetic Jewish characters (Ivanhoe being a major exception) and up until the mid 20th century, the general critical comment was pretty much "decent novel, shame it focused so much on those Jews".
