YMMV / DOA: Dead or Alive

Go To

  • Best Known for the Fanservice: Ask anyone what they remember about this film or why they rewatch it from time to time. Some may say they do it for the fight scenes. The majority will admit it's because of the countless close-up shots of ridiculously attractive, scantily clad women.
  • Director Displacement: Paul W.S. Anderson was a producer, but didn't direct or write the film.
  • Ho Yay: After the Kasumi vs. Leon fight trashes her room, Christie is thankful for Tina sharing her bed with her. When Bass comes busting through the door, Christie can't help but play it up to Tina's horror.
  • So Bad, It's Good: Some fans view the movie as a guilty pleasure due to the Camp, Fanservice, and the fact that it seems to embrace the sheer ridiculousness of its premise.
  • They Changed It, So It Sucks: While a lot of the changes done to the characters have been met with varying degrees of criticism, Helena gets it the worst as she doesn’t even resemble the character visually aside from being a blonde with a ponytail and her friendly and perky personality not matching with her stoic and more serious demeanor from the games. Fans of the character who were expecting to see the usual classy and mature French lady who’s essentially the Big Good of the series were very disappointed.
  • Video Game Movies Suck: It took a full year for the DOA movie to be released in North America after being shown in Europe, and even then it quietly slipped in and out of theaters with zero promotion; given the nature of the game itself, this may be a Guilty Pleasure to some.
