YMMV / DAY6

Go To

  • Awesome Music: They're known on the internet as artists to "trust and listen to" due to their diverse and lengthy discography. Now with its own page.
  • Big-Lipped Alligator Moment: "EMERGENCY" is seen as one in the context of Entropy, due to being a bubbly synthpop song that sounds like it could be right at home on the Mario Kart soundtrack sandwiched between a jazz track and a hard rock track. It's still a well-liked song, but can make for quite the Mood Whiplash.
  • Broken Base:
    • The fandom is peaceable for the most part, but there is still a divide between those who have a strong preference for the heavier, hard-rock tracks and those who gravitate more towards the lighter pop-rock of earlier releases. Most just choose to appreciate both sides equally.
    • There is also a small, but vociferous segment of fans who believe that Junhyeok's departure also took some of the group's magic, despite him only contributing to the first EP.
  • Epic Riff: Oh, several.
    • "Stop The Rain" - and that glorious crescendo of a guitar solo.
    • "Rescue Me" - both the main guitar riff and the varying arpeggios that run under the verses bolster their angst and theatricality.
    • The outro riff to "Shoot Me" is a cathartic conclusion.
    • "Falling" starts off with a syncopated fingerstyle riff on acoustic guitar, setting up the melancholic ruminations to follow.
    • The intro to "Better Better" - a wonderfully delicate, yet uplifting arpeggio.
    • "I Smile" features a crackly, yet soaring synthesizer solo that bolsters the bittersweet, yet resolute message of moving on even when it hurts to do so.
    • The slap bass in "Be Lazy" - fun, groovy and very prone to being stuck in your head.
  • Friendly Fandoms: The members are friends with several other bands and artists, so it naturally is expected.
    • There is a lot of overlap with the fanbases of other Korean rock acts such as The Rose, N.Flying, IZ and ONEWE.
    • Fandom friendships have also been forged with those of other groups under JYPE: most notably, Seungmin from Stray Kids is a super-fan and often shouts them out or casually covers their songs during livestreams. Chan and Young K are also friends, and both groups generally share a mutual fondness and respect of each other. This has caused several Stays to also become fans.
    • A fair amount of overlap is also present with fans of Waterparks - largely due to Awsten and Jae being friends and often interacting on Twitter.
  • Genius Bonus: The Book Of Us series not just makes prominent use of scientific concepts as metaphors for human relationships, it does so with accuracy.
    • Gravity takes the titular concept and applies it to the exuberance and euphoria that marks most beginnings, and the ease with which they pull one in.
    • Entropy takes a statistical mechanics concept and uses it as a metaphor for the burgeoning disarray and passion that sets lovers alight, before the flame consumes itself and leaves them cold. This state of chaos is explicitly referenced in several lyrics, and is reflected in the eclectism of the music as well.
    • The Demon uses the "Maxwell's demon" thought experiment as the primary metaphor in order to discuss the aftermath and the state of swinging between emotional extremes while coming to terms with change.
  • Harsher in Hindsight: The lyrics to "Zombie" aren't exactly sunshine and rainbows as it is. Then comes the real-life context to them.
  • Memetic Mutation:
  • "The idols of idols" Explanation
  • "Kings of forgetting their lyrics" Explanation
  • "What's the title of this song again?" Explanation
  • Moment of Awesome:
    • The band managed to successfully complete a year-long project in 2017 where they wrote, recorded and released two songs every single month. On top of that, they performed concerts and hosted livestreams to accompany said songs, which proved to also be a contributing factor in the boost to their popularity.
    • The group finally getting their first (and second!) music show win in July 2019 with "Time of Our Life".
    • They managed to win "Best Band" at the MBC x Genie Music Awards twice in a row, in 2018 and 2019 respectively.
    • "You Were Beautiful" being able to climb up on the charts at the most unexpected of moments, even when a new album is around the corner.
    • Despite not being able to properly promote it, "Zombie" and The Book of Us: The Demon blew the fandom's expectations (in terms of sales and digital charts) out of the water:
      • "Zombie" getting #1 on Genie and Bugs and breaking the top 5 of Melon (which is notoriously difficult to do), above people such as IU and Suga.
      • Breaking their first week album sales record by a good mile. To boot, Entropy had around 8000 sales during the first week. The Demon had around 30,000 within the first day alone.
      • The Demon spent the day after release at #1 on the iTunes World Music chart. At the same time, Remember Us hit #2.
  • Tear Jerker:
    • Many of their songs are known to be this, with some standouts being "I Need Somebody", "Goodbye Winter", "hurt road", "Like a Flowing Wind", and "Zombie", amongst others.
    • Probably one of the biggest ones to date is when they announced in May 2020 that they will be taking a hiatus due to multiple members being diagnosed with symptoms of anxiety. What makes this hit even harder is that the announcement was right before their album The Book of Us: The Demon was scheduled to release.
