  • Awesome Music: The gently lilting piano throughout is beautifully minimalistic, but it segues seamlessly into a Theme Music Power-Up.
  • Fridge Logic: Rita could have brought Rooks's memory back right after he passed the lie detector test that occurs at the beginning of the movie, since he's supposed to fail the second test anyway. At the very least, she could have done it after he joins the second MegaCorp. However, it looks like Rooks's original plan must have factored in the Virgil's ability to detect a double agent, given that Rita was on stand-by to break Morgan out of the Vault if things went wrong. Morgan would not have been a double agent by Virgil's reckoning if not for Finster's last minute intervention, which very nearly scuppers Rooks's original plan and takes Rita completely by surprise, despite her having been on stand-by.
  • Heartwarming Moments: "It's you."
  • Magnificent Bastard: Sebastian Rooks is a dangerous freelance operative who has made a fortune inventing a brainwashing program for the mega corps DigiCorp and Sunway Systems, although truly loyal only to himself and his lover Rita Foster. In order to secure Rita's safety, Rooks hatches a plot to erase his own identity and become Morgan Sullivan, so he can pass a set of lie detector tests for one company and fail a set of lie detector tests for the other company to infiltrate both of them, all the while appearing as a hapless pawn to both sides. By the end, all his enemies are dead, his plan to steal a specific data file is a complete success, and his real identity is still known only to Rooks and the woman he went to hell and back for.
  • Nightmare Fuel: YOUR NAME IS JACK THURSBY. YOUR WIFE IS DIANE THURSBY. YOU LIVE IN REDMOND, WASHINGTON.
  • They Changed It, Now It Sucks!: Not the film, but the change of title from the enigmatic "Cypher" (meaning either a person of no influence or a form of encoded writing) to the considerably more mainstream "Brainstorm".
