YMMV / Cyber Joly Drim

  • Hilarious in Hindsight: Halfway through the story, Jola has to deal with a completely unprepared journalist that has no clue how the internet works and just projects a lot of things on Jola's most recent creations, going full into Cowboy Be Bop At His Computer in the process. Marek Oramus, one of the biggest critics of the story, and one of the "champions" of the self-declared crusade against it on the pages of Nowa Fantastyka magazine, proved very quickly that he has no clue what the story itself is even about - but that didn't prevent him from being vehemently against it, since The Internet Is for Porn And That's Terrible. Knowing about the eventual fallout of the story gaining wide acclaim and yet being torn apart by NF editors makes the scene with the WzC journalist twice as funny as it was even intended to be.
  • Overshadowed by Controversy: The short story is more remembered in Poland not for its content, but thanks to the infamous reaction it generated from the Nowa Fantastyka, a (then) trend-setting fantasy literature magazine. First, it was rejected from print as "subpar" and then, after the story won nation-wide acclaim and numerous awards, including highly prestigious Zajdel, the editor-in-chief of NF declared the whole award a sham and a conspiracy against good taste, starting a half-year long slander campaing with regular publications against the story and people who voted it for Zajdel. No, really. Of course, this lead to the only possible reaction, since everyone wanted to see what's all the fuss about.
