YMMV / Creeped Out

Go To

  • Broken Aesop: In "Splinta Claws" the main characters save themselves at the expense of leaving every other "nice" child in the world at the mercy of the eponymous animatronic. This seems to send the message "sometimes you have to look out for yourself regardless of the cost to others".
  • Complete Monster: The Koekoeken, from "Cat Food", is a sadistic humanoid parasite that has prolonged its life for thousands of years by "winning" the bodies of children and teenagers—it makes them play a game for ownership of their bodies—before looking for more once they grow too old for its liking. Wanting a new host, the Koekoeken tries to steal the body of its young neighbor, Stu, even showing him pictures of the several other victims that it had through the years. Blackmailing Stu into challenging it, the Koekoeken loses to his dirty tactics but switches its attention to his sister out of spite, cheating at its own game to take over her body and mockingly thanking him for the trick.
  • Fan Nickname: Due to the creepy atmosphere and the New Media Are Evil Aesops, fans have been calling this the Black Mirror for kids. For extra points, the promotional picture for Creeped Out shows a cracked mirror reflecting various episodes.
  • Funny Moments: The ending of Shed No Fear has The Curious come to collect a disco ball as the item of the story, and then Disco music plays and The Curious dances to it. After multiple episodes of The Curious just taking the items used in the stories, to just dance after collecting is hilarious.
  • Special Effects Failure:
    • The ending of Side Show features beautiful special effects of the magic from Zephaniah's magic eye being destroyed reverting all the people back to animals but it also includes poorly composited simians and a bear.
    • "The Many Place" is very ambitious, but its effects - especially the goofy-looking reality warp every single time they enter the Many Place and the flying cars - are extremely silly and fake-looking.
  • Spiritual Successor: The creators have stated they intend it to be one to shows such as Goosebumps (1995), Are You Afraid of the Dark?, Eerie, Indiana and Round the Twist.
  • Nightmare Fuel: The Curious is a Nightmare Fuel Station Attendant in a very literal and figurative way. It actively seeks out when something creepy is about to happen, to collect the story behind it. Not to mention that his mask and silent, staring demeanor are some of the most effective Uncanny Valley you will ever see. Even if it's revealed by Word of God that he's not malevolent at all, it's still frightening to see someone just watching from a distance.
    • "Cat Food" gave us the Koekoeken, which must challenge others, mainly children, to three games of chance. If it wins, it gets a new body. However, the fact that after Stu beat it by cheating, it did the exact same thing to beat Kelly proves that even though it talks about playing fair and square, it is not above breaking the rules to get what it wants. And it could be anyone.
