YMMV / Courier's Mind: Rise of New Vegas

Go To

  • Alternate Character Interpretation: In the Season 14 premier, The Courier chews out a particularly arrogant vault dweller who's clearly in over his head until the character in question gets snippy and leaves in a huff. Was The Courier simply annoyed with his bullshit like anyone else would be, or did he see too much of himself in the vault dweller and wonder if that's how he came across to others, further feeding into his guilt for his actions in the Season 13 finale?
  • Accidental Innuendo: The Courier's infatuation with the Boomer's artillery can easily be taken as something else.
  • Awesome Ego: The Courier may not be an out-and-out Narcissist like Dr. Gordon Freeman, but after killing the deadliest raiders and monsters The Wasteland has to offer, he gains both a very high and very accurate opinion of himself and will let everyone know it.
  • Growing the Beard: Most of the Season 1 has 101Phase trying to find his footing as a Mind creator, being relatively slower paced, having the HUD in plain sight, and The Courier not yet having developed his more flamboyant quirks. Season 2 is the point where The Courier begins to stand out more as a distinct character. The beard blossoms further starting Season 9 as The Courier also develops a distinct character arc in which he slowly but genuinely matures into a more introspective character than the simple Jerk with a Heart of Gold he'd been up to that point.
  • Harsher in Hindsight: Invoked. The Courier initially dismisses Boone's insistence that his wife is dead as simple pessimism. Six seasons later, Boone finally tells The Courier how he knows that.
  • Jerkass Woobie: Considering everything he has to put up with, can anyone really blame The Courier for being a little bit of a Jerkass.
