  • Alternate Character Interpretation: Was Teddy always planning to leave Val to die, or did he decide to screw her over after he found out she lied to him about his family? Considering the evidence showing that he really did care about them, the second option seems plausible.
  • Awesome Music: The opening credits are set to the theme from Magnum Force.
  • Complete Monster: Anthony Lamb is a psychopathic hitman whose wacky sense of humor highlights his giddy sadism. Tasked by Detective Schier to wipe out Theodore "Teddy" Muretto and potential witnesses at her police station to cover up her corruption, Lamb casually kills every cop in his way in his attempt to kill Teddy. Responsible for killing Teddy's ex-wife and son, Lamb at one point forces his partner Huber to kill a cop because he was his friend, promising to kill them both should he refuse.
  • Fridge Brilliance: One might wonder for a moment why Val ends up deciding to trust Teddy over Viddick in the last part of the film, when he's clearly an untrustworthy scum bag, but it does make sense when taking into consideration Val's moral character and duty as a cop. Teddy may be a scumbag and an admitted mob enforcer, rat, and embezzler, but in the eyes of the law at that moment he's a civilian who is in jail just because he punched a cop, while Viddick (and also Lamb) is an admitted hired killer, who crippled his innocent cell mate and is only there specifically to murder Teddy. Val's duty is to protect Teddy, scumbag though he may be, and whether or not he really planned to keep his promise to help Val, letting him out was still the most morally acceptable choice Val could make at that moment. In contrast, if she let Viddick out, she knows he would immediately kill Teddy, and she would be at least partially responsible.
  • Magnificent Bastard: Robert Kane "Bob" Viddick is an honorable hitman tasked with killing Theodore "Teddy" Muretto. To get to the imprisoned Teddy, Viddick pretends to be inebriated so that he'll be arrested for drunk driving. Using his charisma to convince rookie cop Valerie to release him, Viddick kills the traitorous cop Huber, using his body as a decoy to incapacitate amoral hitman Anthony Lamb, while offering parley with Teddy to kill Lamb together. Surviving Teddy’s betrayal, Viddick's able to save Valerie from death while killing Teddy in the process, making an escape via stolen cop car before the authorities arrive, and with Lamb's body by his side to be personally delivered to his boss.
