• Jerkass Woobie: Peter, who had previously earned Joanna's hatred when he left Sally for Kirsty the (much younger) fitness instructor, becomes this when Kirsty jilts him at the altar.
  Joanna: I didn't think I'd ever feel sorry for Peter until he tried to stop Kirsty from leaving, and she turned and said: "I can't deny the age gap any longer. It's hard to be with a man as old as you." He just crumpled.
  Roger: In her defence, I don't think she realised she was so close to the microphone.
  Joanna: Don't excuse her. It was a cruel thing!
• Tear Jerker: A few moments, notably whenever Joanna and Roger remember Bonzo Dog, contemplate their own mortality or talk about the fact that they were unable to have children. It becomes especially poignant when Joanna reveals that the miscarriage she suffered in The '60s that left her unable to conceive had been Roger's baby. Also, the news about Paula having Alzheimer's disease, and how it's affected Ray.
