YMMV / C°ntinuum: roleplaying in The Yet

Go To

  • Enjoy the Story, Skip the Game:
    • The most frequent quote used to describe Continuum is "The best time-travel game you'll never play". Most of the fanbase openly admits they enjoyed reading the book as a work of science-fiction literature (one that takes a lot of time to sit with to really begin to understand), but the idea of digesting all this information and actually playing a game based on it is an incredibly tall order.
    • Compounding this problem is that Continuum was written in 1999 and bears all the earmarks of the Complexity Addiction of tabletop RPGs from that time period, with an overly-granular custom-made ruleset that's already a pain in the ass to learn before you get to any of the time travel stuff. Many people these days who've actually played a Continuum campaign have done so by adapting the setting to a different, less unwieldy system.
  • Paranoia Fuel:
    • Any leveller in history or even other spanners could be replaced by a Thespian.
    • For crashers: First, anyone could be a Continuum plant, especially a future or past you. Second, if you know both the Continuum side of the story and the Narcissist side, the possibility occurs that any time you crash out of the main universe, you're just being lied to by the Inheritors.
