YMMV / Conquests of the Longbow

Go To

  • Genius Bonus: The game has plenty of allusions to different versions of the Robin Hood story and contemporary England, some of them very obscure. for example:
    • Robin gives his name as "Brother Eustace" at the fens monastery, likely a reference to contemporary outlaw Eustace the Monk.
    • Robin uses the alias "Puck of Barnesdale" when entering the archery contest. Barnesdale is where Robin Hood is said to hold his base in some lesser known tales.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight: For a Black Comedy variant, You can let Marian die (the second time) and get a Downer Ending. A later adaptation of the story would end up killing off Marian, resulting in an infamous case of Seasonal Rot.
  • Scrappy Mechanic: Do you know about the archaic, obscure game Nine Men's Morris? No? Well, you have to play it anyway.
    • The Druid hand language is no walk through Sherwood Forest either since you have remember not only what finger a letter lands on, but also what part of the finger it's on. And know what you're supposed to be spelling out.
  • Strangled by the Red String: Robin and Marian spend more time talking about how much they love each other than actually talking to each other. It doesn't help that Robin goes gibbering mad if she is tortured to death...this woman who he's only known for a few months and only seen infrequently.
