• Contested Sequel: The general consensus is that the first and third films of the original series are good, while the second and fifth are bad, which leaves this one in the middle ground with just as many people who like it as there are people who hate it. It is pretty much universally agreed, however, that Rise of the Planet of the Apes improves upon this movie's story in just about every way.
• Rooting for the Empire: You actually want the apes to take over in this film. Especially after Armando's suicide.
• The Woobie: Poor Caesar, especially during the original cut when he went full on Woobie, Destroyer of Worlds territory.
