  • Moment of Awesome: The climax of the story "Tears", when Chika speaks out against her sexually abusive teacher while broadcasting her speech to the entire school.
  • Heartwarming Moments: "Tears" has Chika's parents finding out about the sexual harassment. They immediately pull up a list of lawyers and encourage Chika to choose one, promising that they have her back.
  • Nightmare Fuel:
    • Quite a few of the stories contain elements of this
    • Moreso because everything in the series can and does happen in real life.
  • Tear Jerker: Quite a few of the stories...
  • Values Resonance: Nana's friends are at a loss on how to help her in "Wish" when she gets an AIDS diagnosis owing to a faulty blood transfusion. Obviously they're scared of losing her to a disease that killed hundreds of thousands and try to provide comfort. She goes Don't You Dare Pity Me! because she is still the same person, just sick, and thanks to medical advances, she's not dying any time soon. They decide on another solution: hold a sex education class for their classmates, explaining how AIDS and standards STDs can be spread and what preventative steps to take, such as using condoms for all types of sex. It strikes them as funny and sad that their classmates were never taught this stuff, but it means they do more good than fussing over Nana when she doesn't want that.
    • When Kyouko's father resolves to support her in her rehabilitation, he goes to his workplace to request time off to do so. When his boss asks why, he admits that his daughter has become addicted to drugs. In Japanese culture, where such issues are heavily stigmatized, it's a sign of growth that her father freely admits to it.
  • Why Would Anyone Take Him Back?: In volume 5's story "Secret," Mika suffers from this. She gets gang-raped, pinned down, and brutally assaulted while the gang in question takes pictures. Fortunately, her friends save her when they see what's happening the second time the gang tries this, and Mika is forced to explain the scattered photographs on the ground. She also has to tell her boyfriend. What does her boyfriend do when he finds out? Ask if she's okay? Find out if she went to the police? No, he tells her You Should Have Died Instead. He maintains this view until he gets mugged, and the mugger in question tosses some loose change at him. Mika reconciles with him because he stops her from committing suicide. Sure, absolutely reconcile with someone who could not be your emotional support after a traumatic incident and only developed empathy when he was in a similar situation.
  • The Woobie: Most of the protagonists.
