YMMV / Conan the Barbarian (2011)

• Heartwarming Moments: Conan's father exudes this, leading up to this Tear Jerker.
  Young Conan: (holding a chain that's keeping a small bucket of molten metal from falling on his father as their house/forge burns) I'm not afraid to die!
  Corin: Nor I.... I love you, son. (pulls with all his strength so the molten metal kills him and his son has no more reason to stay and burn)
• Magnificent Bastard: Conan swore revenge on cult leader Khalar Zym for the slaughter of his village, spending the next 20 years building up his skills as a pirate and mercenary. Learning that his enemy intended to conquer the world, Conan works his way through Khalar Zym's lieutenants, starting by infiltrating a prison and breaking out with ease, dropping the key down the warden's throat and leaving the prisoners to kill him to free themselves. Intercepting another of Khalar Zym's lieutenants as he tried to capture an Apocalypse Maiden named Tamara, Conan sends him back to Khalar Zym by catapulting him into the latter's house to "send a message". Sneaking into the cult's base after Tamara is captured, Conan destroys everything that Khalar Zym values, rescues Tamara, and departs for more adventures.
• Moment of Awesome:
  • Every time Conan fights, it's with the skill and ferocity that one imagines when reading the original Howard stories.
  • The battle at the beginning. The Cimmerians are outnumbered, but they fight and fight well.
• Nightmare Fuel: The Mask of Acheron (with its writhing tentacles and puckered mouth sucking up blood) and the massive aquatic beast the Dweller.
• Squick: When Conan catches up to the guy whose nose he chopped off on the day his father died, he starts torturing him by putting his finger in the hole. Seriously, YIKES.
• WTH, Costuming Department?: Marique as an adult's choice of hairstyle is... unique to say the least (which is apparently the same one her mother had).
