• Critical Dissonance: While it was well reviewed (89% on Rotten Tomatoes), audiences weren't as kind (just barely audience fresh at 60%), with a lot of audiences refusing to believe something like this could happen, despite the fact the film was taken from an actual crime in 2004, or perhaps seeing it as too disgusting and distasteful.
• Cry for the Devil: Sandra's fiance raped a girl at the instructions of the "police officer," and they ended up splitting up over it. Yes, Sandra participated in the abuse too, but that still kind of sucks for her. He pretty much immediately realizes he's just done something horrible, as well.
• Fetish Retardant: Even though Becky is an attractive woman played by the gorgeous Dreama Walker, everything about her abuse is this.
• Harsher in Hindsight: The man arrested for the real-life prank call (and also suspected of committing numerous others over a 10-year period) was eventually acquitted of all charges, and no other suspects were ever found. Whether he was truly guilty or not, whoever the real perpetrator was never faced justice and got off scot-free for their horrific crimes.
• Heartwarming in Hindsight: While it doesn't undo the trauma and humiliation, the victim of the real-life case ultimately ended up Happily Married with two daughters, which may make the film easier to stomach after the fact.
• Paranoia Fuel: The thought of a man calling a restaurant or grocery store, claiming to be a police detective, and convincing managers to conduct strip searches of female employees and the managers actually believing them without a trace of critical thinking and performing the tasks is quite disturbing. The fact this has happened several times in real life makes it even worse.
• Too Bleak, Stopped Caring: The whole movie is basically about Becky getting sexually abused due to the idiocy and cruelty of other people.
• The Woobie: Poor, poor Becky. She's just a teenaged employee who gets falsely accused of a crime, forced to strip, exposed to multiple people, forced to humiliate herself and outright raped by a stranger. You just want to give her a hug and a really good lawyer by the end of it.
