  • Germans Love David Hasselhoff: While the game was pretty successful in Japan, spawning an anime and fandiscs, when it was released in the States it doubled Japan's sales. While it probably helped that the selection of officially-licensed otome games is very limited, it also garnered cross appeal with other Western visual novel audiences for its plot and production values.
  • Harsher in Hindsight: Everything about Van and Aleister's relationship, particularly after Aleister reveals he's been working to deceive and corrupt Van since day one.
  • Moe: Just hearing Victor's voice is enough to trigger protective instincts.
  • Rescued from the Scrappy Heap: Finis, thanks to his route in the Future Blessing fan disc. Not only is his route cited as one of the best ones but it also fleshes out his character and relationships with Cardia and Isaac.
  • The Scrappy: Finis in the original game, due to his unlikeability and significant screentime over other more compelling antagonists. While he has a Freudian Excuse for his actions, it only comes out towards the end of the game, which for many fans comes too little too late.
  • So Okay, It's Average: The anime adaptation. While the animation is lauded, fans of the visual novel tend to see it as a decent but flawed adaptation while anime-only fans regard it as average. That it defaults to Lupin as Cardia's love interest and side lines the other guys hasn't done it any favors with those fans.
  • Suspiciously Similar Song: Lupin's leitmotif takes a few cues from his grandson's theme.
  • The Woobie: Cardia. Her initial situation in itself is pitiable, as she considers herself a monster and is depressed by her inability to touch anyone without her poison melting them. However, the fact she's a homunculus and her backstory includes her being persecuted by villagers and her accidentally contributing to the death of the one woman kind enough to treat her as a human is heartbreaking.
