• Ensemble Dark Horse: Even those who dislike the film have demonstrated praise for Sarah as an extremely effective horror villain with a genuinely sad backstory. Her Motive Rant to Peter is considered one of the highlights of the film.
• Just Here for Godzilla: Many fans watched the movie just to see Lizzy Caplan and Antony Starr play a married couple.
• Magnificent Bitch: Sarah, the elder sister of Peter, was a deformed child locked away by her parents. Biding her time until Peter was old enough to free her, Sarah tunneled from her prison to behind the walls in Peter's room and tricked him into distrusting and eventually poisoning their parents before releasing her. Revealing her hatred of Peter for the privilege she lacked, Sarah intends to imprison him in turn and stealthily murders any other interloper in the house, leaving Peter with the haunting feeling that she will always be with him.
• Nightmare Retardent: Sarah’s face is obscured or hidden most of the film and its climax, and when it is shown it is at most a jump scare with viewers complaining that all that buildup wasn’t worth it.
