  • Broken Base: Critics - and fans - either loved or hated this album. Even fans who generally hated it will consistently point to Buck Dharma's guitar solos on "Perfect Water" as being sublime and some of his best-ever work.
  • Genius Bonus: Several.
    • The open and veiled references to Jacques Cousteau in "Perfect Water".
    • The repeated motif of the flags used across the lyrics: Red, White and Black. Not only is this a Call-Back to the early days of the BÖC, there are two other levels of reference that fits the lyric themes of the album. (War, revolution, violent change, whether destructive or transformative).
    • The three colours also evoke Genghis Khan. When he approached a city, the intention was to capture it undamaged so it could contribute usefully to his Army and to the Mongol Empire. A white banner would therefore be raised to signify the Khan's mercy. If the city refused to submit, after a time the white banner was taken down and replaced with red. This meant "I am displeased. My Army will therefore be allowed to pillage, but you and your City will be left alive afterwards so as to rebuild". If this was refused, the Mongols went to the Black Flag. This meant "You have chosen death and ruin. So be it." Now go to the song "When The War Comes Home".
    • The lines ''Creator, Destroyer, victory, defeat" from "When The War Comes Home". Not only the Shiva-Kali dynamic in Hinduism, but also the awed words of nuclear scientist Robert Oppenheimer on witnessing his creation successfully exploding.
I am become Shiva, Destroyer of Worlds
    • The track "Spy In The House of Night" feels like Homage to Jim Morrison and The Doors, except that the Doors' ballad "Spy In The House Of Love" is about sexual voyeurism; the BÖC's similarly titled song is about a pyromaniac who gets his sexual thrills out of setting fires and watching things burn.
