YMMV / Cinema Purgatorio

  • Anvilicious: Naturally, Alan Moore is not at all subtle with his criticism of early Hollywood, with several films being devoted to the unremitting awfulness of business practices, directors and executives.
  • Bizarro Episode: The Time of Their Lives is a surreal stand-alone horror story that neither comments on the protagonist's situation, nor fits into the "dark side of cinema history" theme.
  • Fanfic Fuel:
    • Given the premise that a damned soul is stuck there and is forced to see films that reflect their past sins, what would it mean if someone else visited?
    • How did the theater come to be? How did they make these films?
  • Genius Bonus: There's a lot of facts about the celebrities of thirties Hollywood sprinkled in.
  • Moral Event Horizon: The protagonist killed her own daughter (Geraldine) all because the girl only wanted to spend time with her mother. It says something at how disgusting this is that even the prisoners at the jail she was sent to despised her for the act.
  • Squick: One issue opens up with what looks like the protagonist having sex with Mr. Flicker and she doesn't remember. It doesn't help that it's heavily implied that Mr. Flicker is Hitler.
