- Ensemble Dark Horse/Evil Is Cool: Anthracite, to the point that the publishers had to earn the character rights from Macherot (who had left from the series at that point) and use the character to regain lost readership. It helps that he is considered the best villain Macherot had ever written.
- Seasonal Rot: General consensus has noticed that the stories not done by Macherot are much weaker in quality, which eventually resulted in the series' cancellation.
- Tough Act to Follow: Part of the reason behind the series' downfall is the successive authors failing to come up with a villain as compelling as Anthracite (with one in particular being a blatant imitation of Kaa).
- What Do You Mean, It's for Kids?: Given this series was meant for children, it can be rather disturbing to see it features terrorist assassionation attempts on a King and several characters implied to be eaten.
