YMMV / Chiller

Go To

  • Nightmare Fuel:
    • While the level of violence and gore have long since been surpassed, Chiller still retains some power to disturb and shock audiences both because of the period in which it was released (1986, when such content was all but unheard of in video games) and the sheer, utter pointlessness of it all; you're asked to butcher helpless victims just because they're there, without any real pretext. It's just sadism purely for sadism's sake, cheerfully leaping over a line that very few developers are willing to cross in games even today.
    • Even the game's promotional materials got in on the act, depicting a campy, cartoonish witch, grinning and clutching a severed head as blood drips from its eyes, mouth and neck stump. It really highlights the incongruity between the game's cheeseball Halloween-y aesthetic and its grotesquely bloody violence.
