YMMV / Chico Bon Bon: Monkey with a Tool Belt

Go To

  • Adorkable: Clark is a Butt-Monkey and Gentle Giant who is easily skittish, but lovable nonetheless.
  • Awesome Music: All of Elkin John's songs in "Musical Meltdown" can count, but especially the song he sings when his piano is being raised by the pulley, as it is very powerful and uplifting.
  • Creator's Pet: Mrs. Coleslaw is loved by the writers, and shoehorned in every single episode following season 1. But because of her annoying voice, creepy behavior, and excessive screentime at the expense of other characters, she wasn't very popular with fans. The show may as well be called "The Mrs. Coleslaw Show".
  • Ensemble Dark Horse: Elkin John because of his fabulous design and mannerisms. Having a great singing voice doesn't hurt. Too bad he only appeared in season 1.
  • Fanon: Popular headcanons include that all the Fix-It Force are LGBT - Chico is bi, Clark is gay (this one's the most obvious), Rainbow is pan (it helps she wears the pan flag colors), and Tiny is lesbian/asexual. Sometimes, Rainbow being trans or Tiny being non-binary come up.
  • Fridge Brilliance: Why doesn't Elkin John appear after season 1? Well, he's a world-renowned successful singer, and he obviously has to travel around the world to do his shows. The season 1 episodes where he appears are probably just a visit to Blunderburg, and nothing ever indicated that he lives there.
  • Friendly Fandoms: With Wow! Wow! Wubbzy!, as they are made by the same people and have similar character designs and humor.
  • Moe: The Fix-It Force are all adorable in their own ways. Chico because of his can-do attitude, Rainbow because of her adorable design, Clark because of his Gentle Giant personality, and Tiny because she's a Cute Mute.
  • Periphery Demographic: The show has a lot of older fans because of its wacky, well-timed humor and pop-culture references.
  • The Scrappy: Mrs. Coleslaw, the elderly skunk, isn't very well-liked in the fanbase because of her sickly sweet voice, excessive screen-time that steals the spotlight from characters who need it more like Captain Squirrelbeard, Herb, or Elkin John, and alleged creepy undertones, especially with how she acts towards Chico.
  • Spiritual Successor: To Wow! Wow! Wubbzy!. So much so that all anyone can ever think about when they first hear of this show is "this looks like 3D Wubbzy!". Funny enough, Bob Boyle helped to develop this show. The show has a similar comedy and art-style to that of Wubbzy but in CGI. Could also be this to Julius Jr., as they are both about inventing monkeys.
  • They Wasted a Perfectly Good Character: Sadly, over the course of the show, many characters got swept to the wayside, such as Herb, Captain Squirrelbeard, Betty and Freddy, Elkin John, and Sprinkles. The only characters who appear on a regular basis besides the Fix-It Force are Neil Ostrich, Mayor Murphy, Mr. McFluster, and Mrs. Coleslaw.
  • Viewer Gender Confusion: Some viewers thought Tiny was a boy due to her lack of Tertiary Sexual Characteristics, but she's a girl.
