- He Really Can Act: This project was the one that showed critics and audiences just how talented Robert Downey Jr. was as he managed to not only handle dramatic scenes extremely well but did a superb job of imitating Charlie Chaplin's physical comedy, showing exactly why he was and still is held in such high regard.
- Hilarious in Hindsight: When Chaplin is instructed to change costumes for one particular scene, he comes up with the idea for the Little Tramp. But his delay leads director Mack Sennett to wonder, "What's he putting on in there, a suit of armor?"
- One-Scene Wonder: James Woods as the antagonistic lawyer at Chaplin's trial.
- Retroactive Recognition:
- Milla Jovovich as Mildred Harris, Charlie's first wife.
- A Yankee Doodle dancer is played by Andrée Bernard, who would later be best known for playing Liz Burton in Hollyoaks.
