YMMV / Catherine Wheel

Go To

  • Broken Base: Adam and Eve and Wishville, for the attempt at shrugging off the shoegazing of previous albums. The former has been Vindicated by History, but the latter is still usually seen as the band's weakest effort.
  • First Installment Wins: Ferment and Chrome are easily regarded as their best albums.
  • I Am Not Shazam: In the US, spinning fireworks are not called "Catherine wheels", so some people mistook the band name for a person's name.
  • Nightmare Fuel: If you have a fear of flying, don't touch the video for "Waydown" with a 50-foot pole. It has Rob Dickinson performing with a sinister look on his face and the video itself takes place inside a plane about to crash, with tons of shots of the passengers freaking out.
    • The cover of Happy Days shows a man on a bed, which is falling down a giant baby crib. There are some other terrifying images from the album booklet showing the man haplessly screaming while stuck as a small person in a large crib. Fits the album's aggressive tone very well. (Fortunately, if the back cover, as well as the cover of the "Waydown" single, are any indication, he likely found his way out at some point.)
  • Signature Song: "Black Metallic"
  • Tear Jerker: "The Nude". It's about how the lead singer saw a nude that overcame him and made him feel small and helpless. Good luck getting through this without a tear in your eye.
