• Hilarious in Hindsight: Mater-National, a sequel to the first movie, gave Mater a potential Love Interest in Emma, a British car who loves getting her tires dirty in races. This becomes hilariously ironic since Cars 2, another sequel to the first movie, did the same thing by having Mater get together with Holley Shiftwell, another British Action Girl.
• They Changed It, Now It Sucks!: Fans who played the first game weren't fond of the smaller maps Mater-National had; to accommodate the more unique track designs, the tracks' locations were locked into areas that couldn't be explored in free roam, and the explorable areas are smaller than they were in the original game with previously explorable areas like Radiator Springs' forest and Tailfin Pass' mine also being inaccessible. These changes were so hated that Cars Race-O-Rama reverted all three maps back to their original layouts.
