YMMV / Carry On Screaming!

Go To

  • Common Knowledge:
    • The theme tune wasn't actually performed by Jim Dale, but by Ray Pilgrim.
    • Despite claims that Alexandra Dane appeared in this film in an Uncredited Role, Dane herself confirmed that she wasn't in it.
  • Fanon: Valeria being a vampire, due to her Eerie Pale-Skinned Brunette look and appearance being based on Ingrid Pitt - who played several vampires in Hammer Horror.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight:
    • Dr. Watt's machine for turning women into dummies is rather reminiscent of House of Wax (2005).
    • A Doctor Who reference happens early in the film (Dr Watt says "Who was my uncle"). Jon Pertwee (Dr. Fettle) eventually became the Third Doctor. Angela Douglas likewise would later play another Doris in the serial "Battlefield".
  • Germans Love David Hasselhoff: Charles Hawtrey was only cast in the film to appease the American audiences, who were incredibly fond of him.
  • Hollywood Pudgy: Dr. Watt reacts to Emily's body as if she were a two-tonne blimp. Joan Sims was rather svelte at the time.
  • Misaimed Fandom: The movie is a comedy based on horror movies, much like Scream (1996). Some people found this movie scarier than most Hammer Horror movies.
  • Parody Displacement: This movie is probably better remembered than a lot of the Hammer movies it was parodying.
  • Retroactive Recognition: Mr. Jones is played by Frank Thornton, who would later be best known for playing Captain Peacock in Are You Being Served?.
  • Signature Scene: The "Do you mind if I smoke?" sequence where Valeria literally starts smoking is the most remembered part of the film.
  • Special Effect Failure:
    • When Odbodd lifts the woman from the preparation table, she has some obvious weight as he carries her. However, once he picks her up from the bath of liquid, she is clearly a plaster model as there is no struggle to carry her.
    • When Sergeant Bung bangs his head on the hot water tank, the padding on the bottom is clearly visible.
    • When Albert attacks Odbodd and Junior, they are both clearly dummies - they are both far too rigid when thrown, while Odbodd is far too short compared to his height throughout the rest of the film.
  • Tear Jerker: It's surprisingly sad when Sergeant Bung finds Emily turned into a dummy. Rather than cracking a joke that he's finally free of her, he's actually distraught.
  • Values Dissonance: It would be hard to play Sergeant Bung and Emily's abusive marriage for comedy these days.
  • Visual Effects of Awesome: Most of the special effects such as Dr. Watt disappearing and Junior's creation hold up quite well, through creative filmmaking and camera tricks.
