- Alternate Character Interpretation: Is Sid just trying to help the town with a beauty contest, or is he using it as an excuse for cheap titillation?
- Ensemble Dark Horse: While many reviewers and fans alike often claim that most of the cast look either bored or tired throughout the film, Mildred Bumble is widely seen as one of the film's funniest characters thanks to Patsy Rowlands' deadpan performance, the fact it was her biggest role in the series to date, and her wonderful chemistry opposite Kenneth Connor.
- Hilarious in Hindsight: Robin Askwith's presence here is ironic, as he would later star in the Confessions of a... series, which would ultimately spell the end of the Carry On series by veering towards smut.
- Poor Man's Substitute:
- It's really obvious that the Cecil Gaybody role was meant to be either Charles Hawtrey or Kenneth Williams. Jimmy Logan winds up doing a pale imitation of both.
- For the first time since Carry On Regardless, someone other than Hattie Jacques is cast as the Matron character. Brenda Cowling does a fine job in her one scene, but one can only think of how Jacques would have performed the role.
- Questionable Casting: The manly Scotsman Jimmy Logan as the camp, lisping, limp-wristed Cecil Gaybody. When you learn that he was a late replacement for Charles Hawtrey (who was fired) and Kenneth Williams (who was unavailable), it makes the dodgy choice of actor make more sense.
- Retroactive Recognition:
- Mrs. Prodworthy is played by June Whitfield, who would later be best known for playing June Fletcher in Happy Ever After, June Medford in Terry and June, and Mother in Absolutely Fabulous.
- Larry Prodworthy is played by Robin Askwith, who would later be best known for playing Timmy Lea in the Confessions of a... Series.
- Mrs. Dukes is played by Joan Hickson, who would later be best known for playing Miss Marple in Miss Marple (1984).
- The Matron is played by Brenda Cowling, who would later be best known for playing Mrs. Lipton in You Rang, M'Lord?.
- They Wasted a Perfectly Good Plot: Throughout the film, the main two forces opposing Sid's schemes are his girlfriend, Connie, and Mrs. Prodworthy's Women's Lib group. Despite the fact it seems logical that Connie would join the Women's Libbers at one point, she does nothing of the sort and has no role in Sid's downfall aside from stealing the ticket money for the Miss Fircombe Contest, which didn't affect Mrs. Prodworthy's sabotage efforts, "Operation Spoilsport", in the slightest.
- Values Dissonance: When Patricia Potter is discovered to be a man, everyone refers to Patricia as "it" or "a thing".
