YMMV / Captain Alcohol

Go To

  • Clueless Aesop: The moral is undermined in several ways:
    • Al's homeworld is shown to be utopian or at least much more advanced than ours. The people of this world are stated to have never regulated their alcohol consumption. This seems to suggest reckless alcohol use leads to a better society.
    • Al often speaks about the horrors of alcohol use and criticizes others for drinking. Meanwhile, he gets drunk at every opportunity. Not helping is how he never actually tries to overcome his addiction despite constantly complaining about it.
  • Designated Hero: As Cracked points out, Al doesn't much heroism. He only does it when he is in danger, such as being threatened by the Ravemen.
  • Deus Angst Machina: Lois Alley being killed by muskoxen. This makes as much sense in context.
  • Failure Hero: Captain Alcohol fights several super villains and only defeats one.
  • Wangst: Al's monologues about how his addiction is ruining his life can fall into this, especially since Al doesn't actually attempt to fight his addiction.
