• Awesome Music: Soundtrack by Jerry Goldsmith. 'Nuff said.
• Genius Bonus: The Capricorn One is, by and large, made from modified Apollo program technology, including the launch vehicle (an obvious Saturn V rocket). This isn't as weird as it seems, since there were several 1970s studies on the feasibility of improved and expanded Apollo hardware being used for interplanetary flights to Venus and Mars, in addition to the Cut Short 70s Skylab program.
• Hilarious in Hindsight: The two leads are Elliot Gould and James Brolin. The two men who have been married to Barbra Streisand. ^note  Gould had been divorced from her for nearly a decade by the time of the film’s release and Brolin did not marry her until about twenty years later, they’re still married as of 2023.
• One-Scene Wonder:
  • Telly Savalas as the crop duster pilot Albain and his bizarre accusations of perversion.
  • David Doyle as the hilariously dickish Da Editor.
  • Karen Black as Caulfield's snarky fellow reporter/love interest Judy Drinkwater.
• Tear Jerker:
  • Kay reading Brubaker's son's poem about how proud he is of his father to him during the astronauts' transmission to Earth. Brubaker crying out of guilt for faking the landing just adds the sadness.
  • Walker's Freak Out as he starts slowly succumbing to dehydration in the desert.
• Unintentional Period Piece: Today, the government would have been better making a snoopy NASA tech an Un-person by covering up all trace he ever lived in his apartment, complete with someone claiming to have lived there for years. But the reporter figures it out because even the government can't change every phone book in the city to remove the guy's number and address.
