YMMV / Buffy The Vampire Slayer S 7 E 17 Lies My Parents Told Me

  • Alternate Character Interpretation: Given the look of peace she has when she turns to dust, was Anne trying to provoke William into killing her?
  • Broken Base:
    • Who was right in the conflict of the episode, Giles and Robin, or Spike and Buffy?
      • Some fans point out that Spike was in fact a legitimate threat and that Buffy was being a bit cavalier with having him roam free, plus he'd been given a way to break the trigger and was unsuccessful. Thus, the attempt against his life was fair and pragmatic.
      • Some point out that Robin was never up front about the fact that the First was the one to reveal his mother's killer, and that if successful, Spike's death would have been exactly what the Big Bad wanted. Also, that Spike seemed to have been given less than 24 hours to work through what seems to be the biggest trauma of his life, and that he did end up working through it and breaking the trigger with a bit of time. Thus, Giles was far too hasty in putting down one of the team's best fighters and Robin was prioritizing vengeance over the world.
      • Others fall somewhere between, conceding that Buffy was too irresponsible but Giles was also too hasty—as well as deceptive—and that a compromise should have been struck.
