YMMV / Buffy the Vampire Slayer S 4 E 16 "Who Are You?"

Go To

  • Fanfic Fuel:
  • Harsher in Hindsight:
    • Buffy and Faith switch bodies, with the former appearing a complete and total Jerkass and the latter desperately trying to gain acceptance—compare and contrast Season 7.
    • Especially if one looks at the comics—Buffy's atoning for her past actions in Season 8 while Faith assumes the role as the more responsible Slayer.
    • This episode pinpointed the moment that Riley and Buffy would not work out. Riley becomes mad at himself that he couldn't identify his girlfriend's body was possessed, and he can't deal with the trauma of being raped indirectly, which led to the vampire mistresses and seeking stimulation. Not helping matters is when Angel comes to town, and Riley throws down with him. Buffy in the meantime is furious that Faith violated her body, and tries to get revenge. As Riley puts it in season 5, he knows Buffy doesn't love him, though they tried hard to make it work.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight:
    • When Faith in Buffy’s body flirts with Spike, he says to her (believing her to be Buffy), "When I get rid of this chip me and you are gonna have a confrontation". In a little bit of continuity, in season seven's "Touched", after his chip is removed, Spike and Faith fight about Buffy.
    • This wouldn't be the last time Sarah Michelle Gellar ends up in a body swap.
  • Les Yay: The very first thing Faith does after switching bodies with Buffy is take a bath. Which included feeling herself (and that was just the stuff we saw).
    • What makes this better is that several times attempts were made to portray Faith as straight, from being disgusted at a female drug addict hitting on her to saying she won't go downtown on another Slayer. She seemingly makes an exception for Buffy.
  • Narm: Buffy and Riley's scene at the end, mostly due to Riley's dialogue.
  • She Really Can Act: Eliza Dushku does a phenomenal job imitating Buffy's speech patterns, tone of voice, and mannerisms. Meanwhile, Sarah Michelle Gellar not only has to imitate Faith in certain scenes, she has to imitate Faith imitating Buffy while not acting exactly like Buffy.
  • Take That, Scrappy! Faith (in Buffy's body) telling Forrest to stay out of other people's business.
